Ann Elizabeth Carling was a daughter of Isaac Van Wagoner Carling, (1831-1911) and Asenath Elizabeth (Browning) Carling, (1835-1899, one of nine children of their union. She was born on April 7th, 1859 in Kane County, Utah, at a time when the Mormon Church was doing it's best to settle the wilds of the lands of Utah and Arizona. She married Thomas Chamberlain on Feb 1st, 1877 in St.George, Washington County, Utah, as his 3rd wife, following Elinor Angeline (Hoyt) Chamberlain, and Laura Sumner (Fackrell) Chamberlain. Thomas, who had been born July 17, 1854 in Tooele, Utah, was a merchant and did well in both his business and religious life, as was to be written about him in years to come. His marriage to Ann was a fruitful one, as eight children were borne of their union as follows:
Howard, b.Dec 3, 1877, d.Mar 27, 1950,
Henry, b.July 6, 1879, d.Aug 3, 1940,
(Margaret) Lucy, b.July 1, 1881, d.Jan 14, 1973,
Edgar S., b.June 26, 1883, d.Jan 14, 1886,
Isaac, b.June 8, 1885, d.April 3, 1945,
Sarah Asenath, b.Jan 1, 1888, d.Jan 14, 1973*,
Joseph, b.Apr 27, 1891, d.Aug 19, 1952,
and
Edward Leo, b.Aug.23, 1893, d.July 13, 1956.

Ann did not live long enough to see her many children into adulthood as she passed from this Earth on Sept 27, 1894, due to a ruptured appendix, just over one year after giving birth to her eighth child. Her son, Edgar, was the only child who did not live into adulthood. Ann was only 36 years of age when she passed, but knew she would see her husband and children in Eternity. She is buried in the Orderville Cemetery in Kane County, where many of her other children are interred, but not where Thomas is buried. He passed on in 1918 and was buried at the Kanab City Cemetery in Kanab which is also in Kane County, Utah. The names of his children are written on the back of his headstone under the names of his wives.

*S.Aseneth (Chamberlain) Mc Allister, b.Jan 1, 1888, d.Feb 25, 1926, buried at Sutherland Cemetery, Millard Co., Utah, FAG#59524599, is Sarah Asenath Chamberlain.

Thank you to Leanne Foulger Law, a great granddaughter of Ann (Carling) Chamberlain, who contacted me with the reason for Ann's early demise, leaving eight children, not nine (as I'd stated before) to mourn their mommy's passing. As mentioned above, "Ann died of a burst appendix when Leo was a toddler". [Leanne's exact words]. She also advised me that Arthur Chamberlain was not a child of Ann and Thomas Chamberlain and I have corrected this. Again, Thank you, Leanne Foulger Law {Joseph was her grandfather}.

A special Thank You to Judy Borup and Renae Burgess Linn for adding the lovely photos.

Please contact me if I need to correct any errors or omissions. Thank you, I tried my best. With All Sincerity,
