U.S. Congressman. He Commercial College Indiana and served as a Trooper in Company F, 2nd Regiment, Kentucky Cavalry, Confederate Army, during the Civil War. After the war, he worked on his family’s Kentucky farm, was clerk of Ballard County, (1874-82) and a member of the Kentucky State Senate, (1887-91). He studied law, was admitted to bar and commenced to practice law in Montpelier, Idaho. In 1901, he was elected as a Populist to the Fifty-seventh Congress, serving until 1903. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was Mayor of Montpelier, in 1904, served as town prosecuting attorney and practiced law until his death at age 71.
