Elizabeth was the daughter of George and Maria (Mekaz) Stillwagon. She married Daniel S. Swartz in May of 1836. They became the parents of thirteen children: Mary A., Benjamin Franklin Sr., Christina, Sarah Jane, Elizabeth Ann, Lorena (twin), Lavinia (twin), Sophia, Daniel S. Jr., Catherine, John, Rebecca (twin) and Barbara Ellen (twin).

OBITUARY OF ELIZABETH STILLWAGON SWARTZ

Elizabeth, wife of Daniel Swartz, died at her home in
Pitt Township, February 27, 1883 at 2:30 pm, aged 66 years, 6 months and 18 days. The subject of this notice was the daughter of George Stillwagon and his wife, Maria (nee Mekaz), was born in Manheim Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania on August 9, 1816. She was dedicated to the Lord in Holy Baptism, administered by the Rev. Philip Mayer on 6 October 1815. She was instructed in the doctrines of our holy religion and at the age of 16 years, confirmed a member of the Church by Rev. John Zulich, Pastor of the Zions Reformed Church, West Penn Township, Schuylkill County, PA.

She united in marriage with Daniel Swartz in May of 1836. This union was blessed with twelve children, three sons and nine daughters, all of whom grew up to mature age and all survive her but Lizzie Grum, who six years ago proceeded her to "the other world". The remaining eleven, with their aged father, still remain and mourn the loss of an good faithful wife, and a noble and affectionate mother.

She took sick when on a visit to her children and friends in Mansfield, Ohio. She was brought home sick. She suffered much, but patiently eleven weeks. Her Pastor visited her occasionally and had worshiped with her. These visits were much appreciated by her. Perfectly resigned, she could always say, "just as the Lord wills". She prayed much, and on Friday morning, a few days before her death, she requested to sit up in bed. It was granted, when she sang her favorite German confirmation Hymn learned 50 years ago. After finishing the last stanza, she clapped her hands saying "I am all right now". She was ready to go home now and thus waiting to go, she fell asleep in Jesus, Tuesday February 27, 1883 at 2:30 pm.

Never had a mother more faithful waiting on by her children than had Mother Swartz, she highly appreciated the kindness of her family and neighbors. And that she had many friends was shown during her sickness and was fully evident by the very large concourse of sympathizing friends and neighbors attending her funeral, which took place Friday, March 2nd. This occasion was improved by the Paster E. D. Miller, with a sermon based on II
Corinthians 5:1. Her body was interred in Emanuels Cemetery, Pitt Township. Peace to her ashes.
