Tupelo- Charles E. "Charlie" Garner, 72, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born Dec. 30, 1932, in Pulaski, Tenn., to the late Frank Wesley and Annie Lou Reed Garner. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean conflict. He worked as a foreman for I.M.C. Fertilizer Inc. and worked 12 years at Penn Tire, one year at Landsdell Auto Clinic, and nine years at C&G Auto Parts and Body Shop Supply. He was a race car fan, an avid reader, and enjoyed building bluebird houses for Camp Blue Bird Cancer Camp of Tupelo. Services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Raymond Rooney and the Rev. Buddy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Helen Juanita Hutcheson Garner; a daughter, Emily Garner and husband, Gary Thomas, of Columbus; two sons, Edward W. "Eddie" Garner of Tupelo and James Emory Garner of Leakesville; a grandson, Christopher Lane Garner and his mother, Christie Logan, of West Point; four sisters, Alice Watts and husband, Rassie, of Pulaski, Tenn., Joann Shettles and husband, Bobby, of Nesbit, and Sue King and husband, Aubrey, and Janet Fain, all of Sheffield, Ala.; three brothers, Sammy Garner and wife, Shirley, of Bellgreen, Ala., and Roger Garner, Herbie Garner and wife, Debbie, all of Sheffield, Ala.; a sister-in-law, Millinea Garner of Florence, Ala.; a brother-in-law, Jack Ward of Nashville, Tenn.; special friends, Kristen Logan, Billy Logan and Dean Logan; a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Martha Ward; and a brother, Frank Garner, Jr. Memorials may be made to the North Mississippi Medical Center Patient Cancer Fund or the Verona United Methodist Church.
