Gordon K. Matthews, 85, of Enola died Saturday, June 25, 2010 at Conway regional Medical Center. Born in Happy Valley, Ark., on Feb. 8, 1925, he was a son to the late William T. and Bertha (Griffin) Matthews. Gordon was an Army veteran, serving in the Philippines during World War II and in later years he worked pruning trees in the orchards in Philo, Calif., and he was of the Baptist faith. Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Williedean and Pauline Matthews; and four brothers, Eldon, Tommy, Leister and Eldridge Matthews.

Survivors include his brothers, Frank G. Matthews (Pauline) of Enola and Jack Matthews (Pat) of Conway; two sisters, Joy Tucker of St. Louis and Shirley Smith (Harold D.) of Conway; six nieces; eight nephews and numerous extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Conway Healthcare and Rehab Center for their wonderful care.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Marcus Hill Cemetery in Enola, with Bro. James Goodwin officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier.
