Obituary: The Aberdeen Daily World, August 21,1941. He was born in Oakland County, Michigan. He came to Gray's Harbor in 1887, & spent a few years in Oregon & Orting, he had lived here ever since. All his life was spent in the timber business. In the early days he was one of the best known timber cruisers in Grays Harbor. Many of the old lumber companies retained him as their most trusted cruiser. He was employed at the old A.J. West Lumber Company. In the early days he resided in the Satsop country where he operated a logging show. He built the first bridge over the Wishkah River, a log affair which served in the early days. Survivors are two sons, John H. Ashman,Jr. of Washington, D.C., and Bernard Ashman of Aberdeen, Wa; a daughter, Mrs. Thelma(William) Hopkinson of San Francisco and a brother Samuel Ashman of Amelia, Va ; and six grandchildren.
