Jane was born in Ireland of Scotch-Irish descent. She came to America at the age of 8 yrs. old with her parents and brothers James & baby William aboard the ship "Tuscarora". They arrived in Philadelphia, PA Port on April 17, 1851. Educated in Philadelphia, Jane never married and lived with her parents until 1884. She moved with the family to Saline County, Kansas where they settled in Walnut Township.
After her mother's death in Feb. of 1886 and suffering from what we now understand as deep depression, in April of 1886 Jane took her own life. She was laid to rest next to her mother. A fieldstone marks her grave.
