s/o John & Jane (Lockart) Coburn

h/o Anna Lydia (Feiler) Coburn
m. Nov. 23, 1897 Kansas

Born to Scotch-Irish immigrants from Ireland, Rob was educated and raised near Cobb Creek in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. Rob arrived in Kansas in 1883 with parents & those living siblings still living in Philadelphia. Family stories tell of his assisting Frances Coburn on their farm after his brother William's death in 1890.

Rob told of meeting Anna Lydia Feiler while walking down an alley behind a row of houses (just where is not told) and she stepped out on the back porch and threw out dish water and it landed on him, soaking him. They were married in Nov. of 1897. Anna had started a homestead patent on land in Sheridan County when she was 14 years old. Robert and Lydia homesteaded, raised a family and received the final patent on the homestead. Rob supplemented their income by working for the military feeding horses and then working on the railroad near Hoxie. Rob, Anna and young family spent their early years in a soddie until a block house was built for their growing family.
