Several published sources state - incorrectly - that Nancy Lucretia (Bennett) Westberry was the daughter of John Bennett and Lucy Harris. For example, see Huxford Genealogical Society, Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia, Volume IX, Homerville, GA, 2002, p.452 (citing Vol. VI); see also, Geraldine Westberry Johnson, Rev. Moses Westberry and His Descendants, Meigs, GA, 1999, p.864.

However, Nancy Lucretia (Bennett) Westberry was the daughter of John Bennett and Lucy CAIN.

Lucy Harris was the maiden name of Nancy's mother-in-law, wife of Richard Furman Westberry.

"Lucy Cain" is given as the mother's maiden name on Nancy's death certificate. Also, on the death certificate of Nancy's sister Milzina (Bennett) Westberry, wife of James Randall Westberry, Milzina's parents are named John B. Bennett and Lucie Cain.

I think that at some point the maiden name of Jared's mother, Lucy Harris, was confused with that of his mother-in-law, Lucy Cain, and this error appeared in print and persists to this day, to the utter confusion of descendants.
