Jonathan F Wax married Lucinda Mansfield Cottrell on 6 Apr 1841 in Miami County, Ohio.

Lucinda's first marriage was to John Cottrell in 1835 and they had a son, George Washington Cottrell. He was four years old when his mother married Jonathan.

The family moved from Ohio to Iowa prior to the Civil War. Jonathan and Lucinda had three sons: James, Francis Marion (15699959), and William Henry. Francis and William both served with Co E 29th Iowa Infantry, enlisting in Fremont County, Iowa.

Lucinda died in Montgomery County, Iowa, in 1894 at the age of 74 years. Jonathan continued to live in Iowa for several years, but by 1905 (census) he was living in Bourbon County, Kansas, which is where his son, Francis Marion Wax, lived.

Jonathan died in Bourbon County in 1915 at the age of 103 years. He died two weeks after his 103rd birthday.
