Son of Henry Wax and Anna Painter

Married Jane Elizabeth Hutchinson 7 September 1848. Presbyterian Congregation, Millerstown, Clarion County, Pennsylvania.
Known Children:
John Henry Wax - May 1850
Margaret Catherine Wax - 3 January 1851
Sarah E. Wax - October 1851
Elizabeth T. Wax - circa 1855
Samuel J. Wax - 20 June 1857
Clara J. Wax - circa 1859
David McClellan Wax - February 1863

William was born into a very large family of fifteen children, his father have married four times. His mother, Anna Painter, was his father's second wife and he was the only son of this union, his mother dying shortly after his birth. His father was a substantial landowner and farmer in Carroll Township, Perry County, presumably where William was born.

William first appears on his own in the 1850 Perry County, Juniata Township census, with his wife Jane and infant son, John. Also in the household in a James Hutchinson, shoemaker, who may be his brother-in-law.

William became a shoemaker, returned as such in all subsequent census reports through his last in 1880, from Juniata to Huntingdon counties.
His wife's obituary gives more details of their movements. She survived him by only one year, dying at their son David's home in 1899.
