Born Jan. 4, 1887, in Denhoff [Donhof] Russia, he was married there to Elizabeth Lind in 1905. He, his wife and small daughter Elizabeth, came to the United States in 1907. They settled in the Windsor community where they farmed until retiring in 1940, when they moved into Windsor.
Altergott was a charter member of Zion Evangelical Church, now Faith United Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Jake Altergott of Windsor and Harry Altergott of Yuma; four daughters, Mrs. Katherine Rutz of Windsor, Mrs. Donald (Marie) Winder of Greeley; Mrs. John (Bertha) Wiedeman of Greeley and Mrs. Ruth Midcap of Wiggins; 18 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in November, 1969, two sons, Jake and Henry; and two daughters, Elizabeth and Frieda.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Saturday in Faith United Church of Christ in Windsor. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Windsor.
