in the early 1950's, the couple saw an ad listing a d x station in vian for sale in a penny saver magazine. they with their two boys, lewis and myron, moved to vian and began operating the station. gloria was enterprising and a hard worker. she began making hamburgers on a hotplate and served them at a counter with four stools. soon the burgerswere selling better than the gasoline, so they closed the station and put in a restaurant. she operated this restaurant called "lews grill" until the death of her husband in 1971, and 3 years beyond. she then sold the business which included el siesta motel since 1965. she moved back to donna texas to live with her sisters sarah and fay. gloria was a perfect personality to work in the public, she always had a ready smile and never met a stranger.
