Georgeann Edna Van Pragg was born Wilehmina Martin in San Francisco, to Adelbert Martin and Alice Dorinda Johnson. She was being raised by her father when he enlisted in the service for World War I, leaving his young daughter with his mother. When she became ill and no longer able to care for her granddaughter, Wilehmina was put up for adoption, and Daniel Van Pragg and his wife, Georgeann Meehan adopted her and changed her name to Georgeann Edna. She did get to know both of her biological parents later on, and kept in touch with them. She lived in San Francisco until she and her husband and children moved to Redwood City in San Mateo County, and then to the mountains in the late 60's to early 70's, where she remained until her death in 1986.
