Virl D. Moeckel, 88, passed away Sunday Oct. 20 at Golden Plains Health Care Center. He was born May 1, 1920, in Sylvia, the son of Herman and Laura Lang Moeckel. He graduated from Sylvia High School and was a retired farmer and rancher.
He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson and was a United States Army Veteran, serving in World War II.
On July 13, 1941, he married Bessie Marie Prose in Dighton, KS. She died Sept. 19, 2006.
Survivors include: a son, . . . ; a daughter, Judy . . . ; a sister, Valetta Sharp, Texas; a daughter-in-law, . . . ; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Moeckel and a sister Adabelle Brannon.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Orlando Jantz presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family gathering at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel's Cemetery and Mausoleum with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
