Margaret Jane Kennedy, daughter of Henry and Martha "Patsy" [née Cole] Kennedy, was born on the 18th of January 1825 in the bounds of Spartanburg District, South Carolina. Her family moved to the area around Lumpkin County, Georgia was Margaret Jane was about 6 years old.

On September 30th 1840, Margaret Jane married Ausborn Jefferson Taylor, a son of William "Billy" Taylor and Anna [née Childers] Taylor. This union would have eleven children:

"We learn through a private source, of the sudden death of Mrs. Jane Taylor, a sister of Mrs. Brittian of this place. Mrs. Taylor, for a long time, has been subject to fits, and on Monday morning last, she died while in one of these spasms".
