HOCKER, BENJAMIN D., MRS., P.O. Lizton; Farmer, Sec. 31; Mr. Hocker went to
California in 1858, and never returned; his fate is unknown; he was born in Lincoln Co., Ky., July 8, 1816; son of Philip L. and Sarah Hocker. Was married May 16, 1844, to Jane W., daughter of John and Mary Ramsey; eight children--Sarah M., b. April 10, 1845; Philip L., Aug. 15, 1846; John T., May 22, 1848; William A., Dec. 13, 1848, D. June 23, 1862; Mary R., Oct. 18, 1852; Nancy J., b. Dec. 7, 1854; Lorena E., May 15, 1856, and Benjamin D., b. Sept. 6, 1858.

Jane W. Ramsey was born Dec. 26, 1825 and died April 10 (1910), age 84 years, 3 months and 15 days. She and Benjamin Hocker were married May 14, 1844. To them eight children were born. Two of them with the husband preceded her into the other life. The six surviving children, Mrs. Amos Bramell, Phillip Hocker, John Hocker, Mary Hocker, Mrs. John Hamilton and Benj. D. Hocker were present when the mother passed away. She united with the Presbyterian church in early life but after moving to this county she joined the Methodist church at Lizton. She ever lived a consistent Christian life. She was a faithful wife and devoted mother. Children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of friends mourn her departure. The funeral was from the Methodist church Tuesday morning by Rev. Merricle.

Lizton, Ind., April 12 - Mrs. Jane Hocker, age eighty-four, is dead at her home two miles west of Lizton. She leaves six children. J. T. Hocker, trustee of Union township, is a son.
