Obituary of W G Williams
From the Macksville Enterprise of July 2nd we reproduce the following obituary of William G Williams who died at his home near that place June 24Th, mention of which was made in the News of June 25th. Mr Williams spent his boyhood days and a good many years of his adult life in the vicinity of St John, therefore this sketch of his life will be of interest to many News readers:
"William G Williams, son of John and Anna Moore Williams, was born March 20, 1870, in Guersey(sp) county Ohio, and departed this life June 24, 1936, at his home near Macksville, Kansas. He was aged 66 years, 3 months and 4 days. He was united in marriage with Nannie May Kephart on October 8th, 1895, at St John, Kansas.
" Mr Williams came to Kansas with his parents in the year 1877 at seven years of age. The family settled on a homestead near St John. His father was a blacksmith and erected a sod shop near the home. While he did blacksmithing, William worked the farm, turning the virgin prairie soil with an ox team. Besides farming with the oxen in those days, he shared in all pioneer labors in which the early settlers were subjected.
"He, with his now widowed wife and loving companion of years, settled on the farm southwest of Macksville a number of years ago where they have continuously resided and reared their family.
"Besides the wife he leaves one daughter, Mrs Nona Beckerdite of Macksville, two sons, Waye of Macksville and Winford of Utica, Kansas, seven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs Sadie Barrow of Cherokee, Oklahoma, four half brothers and three half sisters. Charlie Williams, who lives south of Macksville is one of the half brothers.
" Mr Williams united with the Christian church in Macksville a number of years ago and was ever a faithful member. He was also a member of the Macksville Masonic Order. He had a large circle of friends who mourn his passing. He was ever a loving husband, father, neighbor and friend. He was loved and honored and highly respected by all who knew him."
