Harry was the son of Victor Harry and Nancy Cordelia (Carson) Bird. He married Susan Elaine Bagby on 5 January 1917 in Nodaway, Andrew County, Missouri. They later divorced and Harry married Edna Fern Miller in Sylvan Grove, Lincoln County, Kansas on 5 April 1942. They had one son, Victor Wray Bird, who was stillborn.

He owned a restaurant and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a 53-year member of the American Legion, 58-year Master Mason in the Blue Hill Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Vera Bird, two infant half-sisters, half-brother Phillip Bird and half-sister Fannie Bird and infant son Victor.

Left to mourn his loss were his sister and half-brother.
