WHEELER - Garvis W. "Dick" George, 82, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at the VA Hospital in Memphis after a long illness. He was retired from Public Works. After retiring, he worked part time at the Prentiss County Landfill. He was a veteran of World War II. He attended the Church of God.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tracy Arnold and Bro. Neal Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Euclatubba Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Opal Louise George of Wheeler; three daughters, Sylvia Christian and husband, Jerry, of Booneville, Betty Christian George and Ronnie of Belden, and Pam Gentry and husband, Jimmy, of Blue Springs; three sons, Mitchell George and wife, Kristi, and Eddie George and Marcella, all of Wheeler, and Terry George and wife, Jenny, of Biggersville; two sisters, Lena Barnes of Kirkville and Mavelene Gatlin of Ozark; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two special grandchildren and caregivers, Angelia Hoard and Tyler George.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley George and Betty Crowley George; a son, Dick George Jr.; and three sisters, six brothers and one great-grandchild. His nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today.
