Mary is the second daughter of three children (2 females, 1 male) of John Washington Hutcheson (b. 1807-1811, Raleigh, N.C.; d. 1895) and Mary White (b. 1819, d. 1856). She married Robert E. Vowels 23 Jan 1867, Mississippi Co., Missouri, and is the mother of eight children (5 sons, 3 daughters).

MARY EVE VOWELS, 79, DIES SUNDAY A.M.: BURIED MON.

Last rites were conducted Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock for Mary Eve Vowels, 79-year-old resident of this city, who died early Sunday morning, after an illness of ten days' duration. Two years ago, Mrs. Vowels was involved in an auto wreck, which left her an invalid. Her back was injured.

She was born in Tennessee, but moved to Missouri when sixteen years old, making her home near Wyatt. At the age of 18 years, she was married and subsequently became the mother of six children, all of who survive. Her daughters are Misses Cora and Florence Vowels and Mrs. Nettie Bartlett.

One of her sons, Jess Vowels, lives in Cairo. Two sons, Andy and Chas., are at home near Charleston.

Rev. A.J. Duncan officiated at the service Monday afternoon, which was held at the Charles Methodist church. Interment was made in the Odd Fellow's Cemetery of Charleston.
