Anna D. "Annie" Kempfer, age 86, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Madison. She was born on October 9, 1913, in German valley, the daughter of August and Marie (Maurer) Gerke. She married Alvin Kempfer on October 1, 1934. Mrs. Kempfer was a longtime resident of the Madison area. She was a member of the Eastside Evangelical Lutheran Church, Madison. Mrs. Kempfer is survived by her three daughters, Betty Jean Wendt of DeForest, Anna Mae (Ted) Cox of Tallahassee, Florida and Rose Marie Foley of DeForest; her two sons, Vernon (Theresa) Kempfer of Madiosn and Wayne Kempfer of Middleton; her 13 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren; her two brothers, Gotthold (Marian) Gerke of Mt. Horeb; her three sisters, Ruth Monum of Stoughton, Dorothy (George) Oehrle of LaCrosse and Marie (Burnett) Severson of Black Earth; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Kempfer was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1978; a grandson, Edward Foley in 1991; a brother, Henry Gerke in 1978; and a sister, Sophie Huseth in 1977. As her wishes, a private family visitation and funeral will be held at EASTSIDE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Madison with Reverend Kenneth A. Gast officiating. Burial to be held in Sunset Memory Gardens, Madison. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of St. Mary's 4 SW for the wonderful care of Mom and a special thanks to Terri and Marg.
