THOMAS J. McGINNIS

Thomas J. McGinnis, well known Chariton citizen, died at his home in this city on Tuesday morning, May 31, at the age of 58 years, 6 months and 9 days. His demise was due to a stroke of paralysis which he suffered on Saturday morning, May 21.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. E. L. Stone, of the M. E. church, were held at the Beardsley Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, followed by interment in the Chariton cemetery.

Thomas Jefferson McGinnis was born on November 22, 1875, and was a foster son of John Francis and Elizabeth McGinnis, by whom he was adopted at an early age. The early years of his life were spent in the vicinity of Freedom.

On February 21, 1895, he was united in marriage to Nora Williams. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive him, John William McGinnis, Mrs. Ethel Haines and Mrs. Audrey Clark, all of Chariton. One son, Joseph Ralph, died in infancy.

There are also five grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Dunham, of Chariton, and Mrs. Minnie Smith, of Laramie, Wyoming, and one brother, James S. McGinnis, of San Jose, California.

Mr. McGinnis moved to Chariton in November, 1905, and was employed by the local electric company, and remained in their service until his death. At the age of seventeen years he was converted and united with the M. E. church at Freedom where he had since retained his membership.

Tom McGinnis was a splendid citizen in every respect, honest and upright in all his dealings, of a courteous and pleasing disposition, devoted to his family, true to his friends, and ever had the interests of the community at heart, ready to aid in any worthy cause. His demise is greatly deplored by all who knew him.
