JOHN F. McGINNIS

Died, at his home in Warren township, Lucas county, Iowa, Saturday, December 28, 1895, after a lingering illness, John F. McGinnis, aged 59 years.

Deceased was born at Lancaster, Pennsylvania. When quite young his father died. At nine years of age, with his mother, they removed to Tuscarawas county, Ohio.

On January 19, 1861 he was united in marriage to Susanna Dotts. Two children were born to bless this home; James, an attorney, now living at San Jose, California and Mrs. Minnie Smith, of King City, Missouri.

After the death of his wife, Mr. McGinnis was again married on June 7, 1874 to Mrs. Elizabeth C. Taylor. Two adopted children, Thomas, of Wayne county and Jennie, now at home, with many relatives and friends are left to mourn the loss of a kind and noble friend.

During the Rebellion, Mr. McGinnis enlisted in Co. E, 194th Regiment, Ohio volunteers, receiving a promotion to rank of Orderly Sergeant of his Co., which place he held until the war closed.

It was in 1870 that Mr. McGinnis came to Iowa, locating in Lucas county where he has since resided, sharing in the upbuilding and the interests of the county and the neighborhood in which he lived.

In July, 1895 he was stricken with typhoid fever, being very low for several weeks. Then rallying, he was about again for a short time but the all wise Creator reached forth a beckoning hand and on the 28th of December the slender cord of human life was severed and his soul was committed to the keeping of its giver.

Mr. McGinnis was a member of the Methodist church, the funeral being preached by the Rev. R. P. Decker form the Freedom church on Tuesday afternoon. Burial was conducted by the G.A.R. post. A good citizen, kind parent and husband has been called from our midst. May the Father above comfort those who mourn.
