McGINNIS
John W. McGinnis passed away at the Chariton Manor on Tuesday, April 2, 1974, where he had been a patient for the last seven months. He was 78 years of age.
John was born in Wayne County, Iowa on December 17, 1895 and was raised and lived in Lucas County for the remainder of his life.
He served in the U.S. Navy for three years. On March 5, 1921, he was married to Elva Bridges. To this union two daughters were born: Wanda Carrico and Loretta, who died in infancy in 1928.
He was also preceded in death by his father, mother and an infant brother.
He was active in Lucas County, being a member of the Carl L. Caviness American Legion Post No. 102; the Chariton Volunteer Fire Department; the Christian Church of long standing. He was employed at Iowa Southern Utilities for 45 years until he retirement in 1960. He served as plant superintendent for fifteen of those years.
He is survived by his widow, Elva; daughter, Wanda Carrico of Chariton; four grandsons, Michael and wife, Cynthia and son Scott of Houston, Tex.; Gareld, serving with the U.S. Navy, stationed in Florida; Gerald, serving with the U.S. Navy, stationed in Scotland, John Patrick and wife, Lynn and daughter, Melanie of Des Moines.
He is also survived by two sisters, Ethel Haines of Pompano Beach, Fla. and Audrey Corbett of San Diego, Calif., several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends who will mourn his loss.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. James Robertson at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, at the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
