A celebration of life memorial service for Norma Jean Lurding Langdon, 84, of Jeffersonville, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Coots' Funeral Home, Jeffersonville. She died Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, peacefully at home with her family by her side.

She was born in New Albany Sept. 1, 1926, to Charles "Slim" and Georgia Edwards. She was a Presbyterian by faith. She graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1944, and worked in retail sales until she was 80 years old. Norma always had a positive attitude and never met a stranger. She had a "gift for gab" and loved to discuss anything from sports to fashion. She loved all sports especially basketball and spent many afternoons rooting on whatever favorite team was playing, whether it be Hoosiers, Cardinals, Wildcats or Tar Heels. She was a bowler for many years and won numerous trophies. She also liked to play golf and attend horse races at Churchill Downs. She loved getting together with her "buddies" each month to play bunco.

She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and mostly a "friend" to everyone. She will be terribly missed by so many people who knew her and loved her.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol Noble and her husband, Terry, and Nancy Henderson, all of Jeffersonville; stepdaughter, Laura Jane Hood, of Louisville; grandchildren, Laura Hoffman and her husband, Todd, Shaun Lurding and his wife, Jennifer, Maria Lurding and Brandy Michali; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son, Johnny Lurding; sister, Betty Etheridge; and brother, Charles "Boat" Edwards.
