Ethel L. Thayer, the daughter of William and Fredericka Christensen Riber, was born Feb. 8, 1922, at Hardy. She died Tuesday, Feb. 14, in Mary Lanning Hospital, Hastings, at the age of 67 years and 6 days.

She grew up in the Hardy Community where she graduated from Hardy High School with the class of 1939.

Sept. 13, 1942, she was united in marriage to Ralph Thayer.

They made their home together while he served his country during World War II in the United States Army, being stationed in Pittsburgh, Pa., and later in Tampa, Fla.

They then returned to Nebraska where they farmed in the Nora area until the early 1950's when they moved to their present home north of Guide Rock.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Since 1965, Mrs. Thayer had owned and operated Brenda's Shoppe with her daughter in Red Cloud.

She had also been an area representative for Avon products for the past 32 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; set of twins, Barbara and Robert, in June 1956; and her son, Bill, Oct. 26, 1986.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph; a daughter, Mrs. Ervin Kimminau (Brenda), Guide Rock; son, Vic Thayer, Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Nick, Bryan, Julie, Jason, Jerod Thayer and Gaye, Royce and Gena Kimminau; two sisters, Eriene Reis of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Robert Ward (Fern) of Aurora, Colo.; and many other relatives.

The funeral was Friday, Feb. 17, 2 p.m., from the Guide Rock Methodist Church. The Rev. Shirley Carpenter officiated.

Interment was in the Guide Rock Cemetery.

The Simonsen-Williams Funeral Home, Red Cloud, was in charge of the arrangements.
