Born on the old Martin homestead in Irwin Township, Elizabeth was the seventh child of Joseph E. and Catherine Phipps Martin. On September 6, 1895, she married Edward Ballard Emery. They were the parents of Earl Edward, Dewey David, Earnest Aden and Raymond Milo Emery. Elizabeth also had a son named Orren George Martin.
