Robert S. "Bob" Richards, 72, of Timbercrest Drive, died at 3:23 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2011 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mr. Richards was a former dump truck driver and retired after 42 years of service from Golden Foundry where he was a fork lift operator.

A former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Bob volunteered for the Fireman's Cheer Fund and the East Side Community Center. A sports enthusiast, Bob was a NASCAR fan where his favorite drivers were Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr.; he was an avid bowler participating in various leagues in Columbus and he enjoyed pitching horseshoes. Other hobbies included watching birds, squirrels and rabbits and collecting coins. He always enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren and his dogs, Brandy and Nilla.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Glenn Poynter and Lieutenants Alan and Jodi Sladek officiating.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today and from noon until service time Monday.

Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born in Edinburgh January 15, 1938, Mr. Richards was the son of Harry O. and Alvina L. Coy Richards. He married Judy K. Hawkins February 27, 1960.

Survivors include his wife of fifty years; daughters, Kimberly (Carvel) Gilbert, Robin (Scott) Shull and Holly (Aundra) Harris, all of Columbus; grandchildren, Heather and Ryan Gilbert, Kerrigan Feider and Clayton, Parker and Ethan Harris; brothers, Albert and Timmy Richards, both of Columbus; sisters, Sharon (Delbert) Lucas of Nashville, Terrie Mathis of Hope and Nina Harrison (Tom) and Bonnie Roach, both of Columbus; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Richards was preceded in death by his father, Harry O. Richards; his mother, Alvina L. Lucas; brothers, James, Laurel and Ronnie Richards; and a sister, Cheryl Richards.
