Francis L. Cromwell, 69, of Westport Island, died Jan. 31 at MaineMedical Center in Portland following a long illness.
He was born in Wiscasset on July 2, 1939, a son of Herbert B. and Frances A. (Austin) Cromwell.
He attended Westport Island schools and was employed by Lane Construction. On March 7, 1959 he married Phoebe A. Greenleaf and they resided on Westport Island. He was a self employed lobsterman and began a construction business in 1968 with his brother Herbert Cromwell Jr. In 1976 he and his wife built, owned and operated the Westport Barn Country Store.
He was a member of the NRA, American Classic Car Association and Pierce Arrow Society.
He enjoyed collecting old cars, boating, hunting, spending time at his camp in Lowell and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Herbert Cromwell Jr., and Charles Cromwell Sr.; and one sister, Virginia Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Phoebe A. Cromwell of Westport Island; two sons, Larry S. Cromwell of Westport Island, and Timothy A. Cromwell of Westport Island; two daughters, Elaine L. Nichols and husband Todd of Westport Island, and Peggy S. Averill and husband Wayne of Alna; two brothers, Calvin Cromwell and wife Joanne of Westport Island, and Judson Cromwell of Westport Island; sister, Marjorie Pooler of Wiscasset; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
