Thomas was born in Cayuga North Township, Haldimand County, Ontario. He was the second son born to Michael and Margaret Flynn-Gormley. He immigrated with his parents and siblings to the United States in 1866. The family settled on an 80 acre farm in Metamora Township, Lapeer County. Thomas never married and was living with his parents in the 1880 Census. In 1894 (Michigan Census) he is found living in Arcadia Twp. with brother Michael and then in Attica Twp. with sister Ann Doherty. In 1910 Census, he is living with his cousin, James Sweeney in Hadley Twp. In 1920, he is found living in the Lapeer County Poor Farm, Mayfield Twp. where he died.
