Catharine was the oldest of ten children born to Johann Adam Zehner, Jr. and his wife, Barbara Kesen. Her siblings were: Maria, David, Magdalena, Christina, John, Henry, Benjamin, Jacob and Stephen Zehner.

Catharine became the bride of Stephen Balliet in 1808 in Northampton County, PA. To them were born eleven children whose names were: Jonas, Benjamin, Nancy, Joseph, Stephen Jr., Leonard, Henry S., David, Telina, Catharine, and Mary Balliet.
