Gus Edward Blackwelder, 86, of Rt.8, Roberta Road, died Saturday night in Cabarrus Memorial Hospital following one year of declining health.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 4 p.m. at Roberta United Methodist Churh by the Rev. Donald Routh and the Rev. J. B. Helms. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will remain at Wilkinson's Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family requests the memorials may be made to the Cemetery Fund at Roberta United Methodist Church of which he was a member.
Mr. Blackwelder, a son of the late Joshua and Mrs. Clara Blackwelder Blackwelder, was born Jan. 2, 1891, in Cabarrus County. A retired farmer, he was married the first time to Emma Holland Blackwelder who died Dec. 9, 1936.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Gertrude Furr Blackwelder; five daughters, Mrs. Clara Easley, Mrs. Rachel Crisco, Mrs. Mary Smith Gordon, Mrs. Diane Hudson, and Mrs. Sharon Small, all of Concord; two half-sisters, Mrs. Annie May Stirewalt of Kannapolis and Mrs. Lula Murry of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, Carl Blackwelder of Kannapolis, and Lawson Blackwelder of Concord; one half-brother, J. C. Blackwelder of Charlotte; 21 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
