He married Edna Marie Schmidt on June 22, 1940. They had five children together: Barbara, Edna, Leonard, William Jr. and Robert.
Their children gave them four grandchildren: Christina Mack, William Sterling Mack, Angela Mack and Bobby Mack.

William Mack, a resident of Steger, died Monday, May 24, at VITAS Hospice at St. James Hospital and Health Centers, Chicago Heights. A service was Wednesday at Smits Funeral Homes Steger Memorial Chapel, Steger, with Deacon Ray Deabel officiating. Interment was in Skyline Memorial Park Cemetery, Monee. Mr. Mack was born March 8, 1911, in Germany. He was retired as a pattern maker with Amsco Co. and Fisher Body Co. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Frank) Opsahl of Eureka Springs, Ark. and Edna Alder of Steger; three sons, Leonard (Laurel-Li) of Sandwich, William (Penny) of Beecher and Robert (Helen) of South Chicago Heights; two sisters, Anna Eyler of San Diego, Calif, and Elsa Hermann of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, John (Millie) of Chicago Heights; a sister-in-law, Adele Mack of Chicago; and four grandchildren. His wife, Edna, died Feb. 10, 1994.
