Services for Mrs. Alta Altenhein, 85, who died Wednesday, July 4 at Sunrise Hill Care Center, will be held today (Friday) at 10:30 a m. at Overton Funeral home in Traer with the Rev. Andrew Stewart-Morris, pastor of the Traer United Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Buckingham cemetery. Born September 14, 1886, at Traer, she was a daughter of Alvah and Mary Elizabeth Green Gates. She attended Traer high school and on September 20, 1906 was married to Roy Altenhein.
Mr. and Mrs. Altenhein farmed for many years away from Traer and then returned to Traer where he was employed by the Traer Lumber yard. Later he assumed management of the Buckingham Lumber yard as well as doing carpenter work in the area. Mr. Altenhein died May 21, 1951 and his wife continued to live in Traer where she was employed by many of the local restaurants. In October of the last, year, Mrs. Altenhein moved to Sunrise Hill. Care Center where she lived until her death Wednesday.
She was a member of the 50 year class of the United Methodist church the Rebekah lodge, United Methodist Women and CIC, as well the Royal Neighbors and the Buckingham Home Circle club. Survivors include four sons John, Paul, and Rodger, all of Traer and Robert of Cedar Falls; one daughter Mrs. Harold (Ruth) Hoeppner of Dinsdale: one sister, Mrs. James Dalziel of Traer. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Miss Ruth Thomas will be the organist will be the organist and Kevin Wood soloist. Pallbearers will be Bruce Altenhein, Bill Altenhein, Vernon Hoeppner Donald Hoeppner, Curtis Hoeppner, and Eldon Hoeppner.
