Roy E. Altenhein, 68, who had been in failing health for the past half year, died at his home at 9 p. m. Monday of carcinoma. He had been ill since August or last year and spent 10 days in the hospital in December. Roy, son of William and Lydia Altenhein, was born August 9, 1882, on a farm near Brookville, Illinois. The family lived in Kansas for a short time and came to Iowa when Roy was a youth. He married Alta Gates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Gates Sr., at Traer September 20, 1906. The couple lived in Traer for several years and then moved to a farm near Popejoy. They returned to Traer for a few years before moving to Buckingham in 1917 where he was manager of the Buckingham lumber yard. They returned to Traer in 1927 where he had been engaged in the carpenter trade since. He was a member of Gem lodge, I. O. O. F. of Traer. He is survived by his wife; four sons, John, Paul, Rodger and Robert, one daughter, Mrs. Harold Hoeppner, of Dinsdale; one brother, Guy and fourteen grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 2:30 p. m. yesterday afternoon at the States Funeral home with the Rev. Paul Somerville, pastor of the Traer Methodist church, officiating. Music was provided by Dorothy Stevenson and Mrs. Bernard Risvold. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Gladys Bredfeldt and Mrs. Cora Van Corp. Pallbearers were Ralph Haack, Kenneth Stueben, Warren Leuders, Merlyn Buffington, Eugene Crouse and Webster Latting. Interment was in Buckingham cemetery, with graveside services by the I.O.O.F.
