Mrs. May was born April 29, 1917, in Rockingham County, and was the daughter of the late Roy Edgar and Annie Virginia Lam Sellers.
On April 13, 1933, she married Alfred W. May, who preceded her in death Feb. 6, 1970.
Mrs. May had previously been employed by Duplan Manufacturing Co. in Grottoes from 1944 until it closed. Also, she had been employed by Alfred Neys, Joseph Neys and Belk in alterations and sewing.
She is survived by a daughter, Doris Allen and husband, James, of Staunton; Five sisters, Pauline Waggy of Harrisonburg, Miildred Arnold of ELkton, Hazel Willi of Harrisonburg, Jessie Gooden of Elkton and Iris Jean Sword; of Dayton; nine grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Rudolph W. May, a granddaughter, Pamela Sue Spiggle, and five siblings.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville with the Rev. Carrie Talbot officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
