WILLIAMS
Milton Elbert Williams, son of Parkison and Sarah J. Essex Williams, was born Feb. 1, 1883 in Lucas County, Iowa and departed this life July 24, 1979 in the Lucas County Memorial Hospital at the age of 96.
His early life was spent on the farm in the Sharon and Freedom areas. He spent some time before marriage as a Railway Mail Clerk on the Burlington Omaha to Chicago Route.
On Jan. 20, 1909 he united in marriage to Nellie Edith Moore in Chariton. Five children came to bless this home. Elbert spent the next several years farming in Lucas County and in 1943 they moved to Portland, Ore., where their oldest son, Paul, lived. In 1957 they moved back to Iowa and made their home in Russell until moving to the Chariton Manor in November of 1978.
He was the last of his family and was preceded in death by is wife, Edith, June 11, 1979, and by two sons, Paul Revere and Keith Essex and one grandson, Richard Ernest Mickle; his parents, seven sisters and three brothers.
He is survived by one daughter, Lois Gookin and husband, Arthur of Chariton; two sons, David Ernest and wife, Elsie, of New London, Ia., Richard Arthur and wife, Jeanette, of Lake Charles, La.; ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces, other relatives and friends.
He will be remembered in many ways but especially for his garden and flowers in Russell.
Services were held July 27, at the Mosher Funeral Home in Chariton with the Rev. Wauneita McConnell conducting. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery.
