Bettendorf - Robert J. Millikin, of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007, in Bettendorf. Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Inurnment will be at a later date in National Cemetery, Rock Island. The Runge Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Robert was born September 18, 1916, in Mansfield, Ohio, the son of William P. and Eva M. (Hersh) Millikin. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Custis on January 5, 1946, in Richmond, Va.

He served in the Navy during World War II. He worked as a photo lab supervisor for PanAm, the civil service, and the Pentagon prior to his retirement. He was a member of the U.S. Power Squadron and Redeemer Lutheran Church, of Bettendorf. Robert was a member of the U.S. Chess Federation and volunteered teaching chess to elementary and junior high school students in Gloucester, Va., and in the Quad City area.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Betty, Bettendorf; son, John (Mary) Millikin, and their children, Joseph, Andrew, Peter, Alice and Michael, Alexandria, Va.; daughter, Peggy (Fred) Coen, and their children, Tammy and Kevin, Bettendorf. His parents, daughter Catherine Anne, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death. The family would like to send a special thanks to the Genesis Hospice Nurses.
