A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should gather at the Runge Mortuary by 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made through the family for a memorial to Genesis Medical Center.
She was born on September 9, 1924, in Eastville, Va., the daughter of Rufus P. and Margaret Z. (Clinch) Custis. On January 5, 1946, she married Robert J. Millikin in Richmond, Va. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2007.
Mrs. Millikin was Director of Medical Records at Walter Reed Memorial Hospital in Glouchester, Va. Prior to that she was a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Spending time with her family was most important to Betty. For many years she enjoyed gardening, knitting, exercising, and, more recently, delivering blankets to Edgerton Women's Clinic.
Survivors include children, John (Mary) Millikin of Alexandria, Va., and Peggy (Fred) Coen of Bettendorf; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Anne Millikin in 1973, two brothers and one sister.
