Harvey Richard Hammer, son of Lars and Ellen Nystrom Hammer, was born April 14, 1914, along with twin Harold, at the family farm near Norway, Kansas, and passed away Monday, November 30,1992 at the Sunset Home Nursing Center, Concordia, Kansas at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 16 days.
He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Norway, and was graduated
from Norway High School in 1933. He was a retired
farmer and lived in the area all his life.
On July 16, 1937 he was united in marriage to Florence Ames at Highland Baptist Church, and this union was blessed with five daughters:
Nina, Phyllis, Betty, Linda and Esther. They lived on a farm south of Scandia and
celebrated their 50th wedding 1987.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, three brothers:
Carl, Loyd and Iver; one sister,
Esther Lervold; one daughter,
Nina Robison, and one
great grandson, Christopher
Simmons.
He is survived by his wife Florence Hammer of Scandia, Kansas; four daughters: Phyllis
Odell and husband Ronald of Lindsborg, Kansas; Betty Larson and husband Rodger of Belleville, Kansas; Linda Sis and husband Frankie of
Belleville; and Esther Stafford and husband Roger of Scandia; his 15 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren; also his twin brother, Harold Hammer; sisters-in-law Mabel Hammer, Esther Hammer and Alice Hammer; nieces and
nephews, other relatives and many friends.
