1900 census Lucerne, Kings, CA: Willis Hyatt, aged 37, born May 1863, engineer sawmill, bp CA, father IL, mother MO; Flora aged 29, born Apr 1871, married nine years, three children w/three living, bp CA, father MO, mother IL; Sherman aged 7, born Sep 1892; Vernon aged 6, born Mar 1894; Cora aged 3, born Aug 1896 -- all born CA.

1910 census Chico, Butte, CA: Willis Hiatt, aged 43, house carpenter, bp OR, both parents IA; Flora E. aged 37, first marriage for both of 20 years, three children w/three living, bp CA, father MI, mother OR; Sherman L. aged 18, works planing mill; Vernon E. aged 17, works box factory; Cora M. aged 12 -- all born CA.

Side Note: In 1910 Oscar and Minnie Allen are living next door to Willis & Flora Hiatt, and daughter Cora. Cora is only 12 years old. Three years later Cora marries Homer Coon; Minnie dies that same year; Minnie's sister Clara Clayton is married (1911) to Homer's brother Lemuel. See Index.

1920 census Turlock, Stanislaus, CA: Homer Coon, aged 23, caterpillar engineer (tractor driver), bp CA, father IL, mother MO; Cora aged 22, bp CA, father OR, mother CA.

1930 census Durham, Butte, CA: Homer A. Coon, aged 34, foreman grain warehouse, bp CA, father IL, mother MO; Cora M. aged 32, both first married aged 19 & 17 respectively, bp CA, father OR, mother CA.

After the death of her son Walter, Cora made a conscious decision not to have anymore children due to the hereditary nature of her diabetes - type 1. After Homer (Dick) died in 1959, Cora rarely left her home, and lived with the blinds drawn. She also suffered from allergies, which may have accounted for her reclusiveness.

Chico Enterprise Record, January 27, 1996: "Cora Coon. A graveside service for longtime local resident Cora Mae Coon, 98, of Chico, will take place at 2 p.m. Monday in Chico Cemetery. She died Thursday, Jan. 25, 1996, in a local convalescent hospital. Mrs. Coon was born Aug. 24 1897, in Confidence to Willis and Flora Hiatt. She attended Chico schools and married Homer "Dick" Coon in 1917. She loved making a home for her family. Mrs. Hiatt was widowed in 1959. Memorial contributions may be made to the Durham Volunteer Fire Department, in care of Brusie Funeral Home."
