Thomas was the son of John Boyd Campbell (a confederate Soldier who died from wounds during the War in Dalton, GA) and Elizabeth F. (Evans)Campbell. on 17 Jan. 1882 he married Clarissa Ursula Wright in Butler, Choctaw Co., AL,
They had 13 children 2 infant boy's didn't survive. at their First home in Womack Hill, Choctaw Co., Al.

T. J. was a farmer. He moved to Laurel three weeks before his death according to newspaper obituary written by his son, Tommie Lenoir Campbell (See THE CHOCTAW ADVOCATE, 25 April 1923). Member of the Masonic Lodge. According to Pearl Campbell Leard, her parents had two children (boys) who were born dead or either lived only a few hours. One died in 1893 and one on February 14, 1905. Both are buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Red Springs Road (C. R. 25), Choctaw Co., AL. One has no tombstone. T. J. served as a Petit Juror during the 1907 Fall Term of Court, Choctaw Co., AL.

According to his death certificate from the State of Mississippi (no. 6568), he was aged 65 years 11 months and 3 days old. He died at 6:15 AM on 14 April 1923 from Rheumotoid Arthritis. He was attended from 23 March 1923 to 14 April 1923 by Dr. Risher of Laurel, MS. The Informant of his death was H. A. Campbell of Laurel, Mississippi. Sumrall Undertaking Co., of Laurel, Mississippi handled the arrangements. On the death certificate his parents were listed as John B. Campbell, born in North Carolina, and Elizabeth Evans, born in Mississippi.
