NELDA BRYAN JACOBS

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Nelda Bryan Jacobs will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Community Baptist Church, 164 DeFreese Road, West Monroe, Louisiana with the Reverend Danny McIlveene officiating. Interment will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park, Monroe, Louisiana under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA. Visitation will be Tuesday August 18, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.

Nelda, 89, passed away August 15, 2009 at Glenwood Hospital following a brief illness. Nelda was born on July 3, 1920 in Downsville, Louisiana to Truston and Mable Bryan. Her father had a dairy and a farm so she grew up working on the family farm. She graduated from high school and attended Louisiana Tech in Ruston for a short time. She worked at Primos Cafeteria as a cashier where she met her future life partner. She married George Jacobs on July 9, 1946 and left Downsville for a honeymoon in the Bahamas and remained there, raising her family and working as a store cashier for Morton Salt Company for 37 years. Returning to Louisiana she became active in the Saint Francis Auxiliary, AARP, RSVP, the Keenagers of Central Baptist Church, Senior Olympics and many bowling leagues and card playing groups. Nelda and George went bowling on their second date and continued to bowl together for 63 years. She loved going to the bowling alley and seeing all her bowling friends and was a fierce competitor. Besides the bowling, the highlight of her week was her Tuesday afternoon card playing groups. She loved to travel and was always on the "go". Nelda loved her family and always enjoyed her children and grandchildren, doing whatever they asked of her. She also never met a stranger and usually if she talked to someone long enough she would find some way that she was related to them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Cecile Brooks, brothers, Earl F., Lanier, and Holmes Bryan and son, George Alvin Jacobs, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, George Alvin Jacobs; son, Truston of Lawrence, KS; daughter, Claire J. Mayeux and husband Pat of Pineville, LA; brother, Reginald Bryan and wife Jean of Downsville, LA; grandsons, Adrian, Kevin and Matthew Jacobs, Justin Waldrop, and great-grandsons; Isaac and Jack Jacobs.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews, Jeff Pruitt and David Bryan.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Diabetes Association or to Com-munity Baptist Church.
