"After the death of his first wife Margaret Thompson, James Macklin returned to Ireland and there married Eliza MacKane, 1818-1892, a cousin of his first wife. He returned to Greenwich and soon purchased the farm on the west side of the lake [Cossayuna], now the Lightbody place. After his death it was long occupied by his son, David who made a home for his mother. The farm included the peninsula now known as the Oaks. It was until near the end of the nineteenth century covered with a dense forest and was for half century know as Macklin's Point. James and his second wife are buried in the South Argyle Churchyard. The family were Gaelic Irish and of the Associate Church."

Taken from the Macklin Family History, 1951, Greenwich Library.

The nine children (7 boys & 2 girls) of James Macklin and Eliza MacKane were:
James b.1845; John and Thomas b.1846; Robert and Edward b.1848; Andrew 1850; Martha 1853; David 1857; Emma 1860
Of note; Eliza had two sets of male twins in 1846 and then again in 1848!

The spelling of MacKane is found in son Robert's family Bible, and is assumed to be correct. However the stone says, McKane.

Writer is Eliza's second great granddaughter.
