Timothy Shaffer came from Ohio to Linn County in 1868. His wife was Catherine Shank. His son Perry married Susan Guynn from Iowa. They were living on the old Blacks farm when the Price raid went through. Samuel Perry Guynn and his brother-in-law, W.K. Evarts of Company E Sixth Kansas Cavalry, were on a visit at the Shaffer home and in uniform. They started about 9 am and at the Fisher farm northwest of Pleasanton met twenty rebels who shot and killed Samuel and stripped his uniform from him and wounded Evarts in his arm, but he escaped. Perry Shaffer's son, Leroy married Lovena Akers and the daughter Pearl married Harley Johnson.
