McDOWELL

Harry (Mose) McDowell, the son of A. O. and Carrie Belle McDowell, was born in Carbonada, Ia. on March 2, 1899 and entered his eternal rest on Nov. 21, 1971 at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital, having reached the age of 72.

He was the youngest of eleven children and was preceded in death by both of his parents, nine brothers and sisters.

He was united in marriage in 1925 to Stella Routt. To this union were born four children. Most of his life was spent in Chariton. During his younger years he worked in the coal mines. Later he was employed by Iowa Southern Utilities, retiring in 1964.

He was an avid sports fan and was actively involved in ball games until the age of 55. He also enjoyed fishing and had a very close knit family life.

Mr. McDowell was a member of the First Baptist Church, having served as a Trustee and custodian. He loved his church and served her well as long as health permitted.

He is survived by his wife, Stella; three daughters, Mrs. Steve (Leta) Grgurich of Williamson, Mrs. Wayne (Mary Alice) Abel of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Telfer (Carol) Epp of Des Moines; one son, Fred of Des Moines. There are nine grandchildren; one brother, Bazil; and a host of nephews and nieces.

He will be sadly missed by his family, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. Edward Quick at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 23, at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
