William A. Porter traveled around the world in the mid 1800s as part of a minstrel show.

He was married two times.
First married in New York city in the late 1840s or early 1850s to Eleanor O'Farrell. Their son was William H. William went to Memphis, TN where he died in the yellow fever epidemic of 1878. William had a son Harry Arthur Porter who lived in San Joaquin, Texas.

In 1872 he married Miss Clara Rice. They were the parents of two sons, Arthur J. and Harry R.

Death of William A. Porter
Last Surviving Member of the Famous Christy Minstrels.
William A. Porter of Johnsonburg, the last surviving member of the famous Christy Minstrels, died Tuesday at his home in that village, after a ten days' illness of pneumonia. He was 84 years old.
Mr. Porter was born in Hartford, Conn. He was a skillful musician, identified with the minstrel troupe fo many years, and during the time he was with them they visited every country in the world, and while in England were called upon to play before Queen Victoria.
Thirty-five years ago he abandoned the stage and took up his residence in Johnsonburg, where, by his upright life, he gained the respect and esteem of all who knew him. A friend in speaking of him said: "If he could not speak well of a man he made it a rule of his life to say nothing."
The surviving relatives, besides his wife, are two sons, Arthur and Harry Porter of Sonyea, a sister, Mrs. Harriet Dickenson of Johnsonburg, and a brother, Seth Porter of Iona, Mich.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 1 o'clock from the Congregational Church in Johnsonsburg, Rev. Holland of Varysburg officiating. The interment will be under Masonic auspices. Mr. Porter, who was an active member of West Star Lodge, F. & A.M., of Varysburg, joined the Mason while traveling in New Zealand.
