Double Funeral for Mt. Morris Banker, Daughter

Funeral services for Harry R. Porter, Sr. 88, retired Mt. Morris banker, and his daughter, Miss Mildred Porter, 59, who died within minutes of each other last Thursday afternoon, June 2, 1966, were held at Mt. Morris Saturday, Rev. Ronald Breen officiating
Mr. Porter was a cashier and a director of the Genesee River National Bank in Mt. Morris for many years retiring in 1953 when the bank merged with Security Trust Company. He was a founder of the Livingston County Bankers Association, had served on the Mt. Morris Board of Education, was a director of the Mt. Morris Cemetery and Library Association, was at one time a mayor of the village and was a member of the Mt. Morris Masonic lodge.
Miss Porter was born March 18, 1907, at Sonyea. She received her teaching certificate in 1928 from Genesee Normal. She began teaching in 1928 at Burt Hill, then taught in the Groveland district school from 1936-1949. Though 1960, she was affiliated with the Metropolitan Bible Institute in New York City, then taught at the Pavilion school until 1955, when she began teaching at the Mt. Morris School.
Mr. Porter is survived by his wife, the former Jessie Murphy, who is a patient at the Nunda Community Nursing Home; three sons, Dr. Harry Porter, Jr. of Albany, provost of the State University of New York and homer president of the state college at Fredonia; Dr. David Porter, a veterinarian now residing at Norwalk, Conn., and Robert, a school administrator at Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dr. Harry Porter's Father, Sister Die Within Minutes
Mount Morris, NY.
The sister and father of the provost of the State University of New York, died within minutes of each other thursday when stricken by heart attacks.
Mill Mildred Porter, 59, an elementary school teacher, died in her parked automobile while on a shopping trip. Her father, Harry R. Porter, 89, was stricken fatally at their home in this Livingston County immunity after being told of her death.
Among their survivors is Harry W. Porter of Albany, the second ranking official of the State University. He is a form present of the State University College at Fredonia
Miss Porter and her father lived at 44 Stanley Street.
