Mary C. Cogan, 98, a resident of Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation Center, Boone, N.C., formerly of Coupon, died Tuesday at the center.
She was born in Coupon, daughter of the late George and Cora (Litzinger) Donoughe.
Surviving are two sons: Verrell Patrick (Kate) of Boone, N.C., and Gary (Karen) of Summerfield, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Cogan; a son-in-law, Gerald Edwards; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Stella Gates of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verrell, on March 27, 1987; three children: Barbara Sullivan, Jane Edwards and Richard; seven sisters: Norma Eckenrode, Edna Stump, Thelma Booterbaugh, Iva Dougherty, Ita Donoughe, Ethel Malone and Reba Kenner; and four brothers: John, Ralph, Robert and Patrick.
Mary worked for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., for 18 years, retiring in 1977 as an administrative assistant. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and a former member of Holy Rosary Church, Juniata, Ladies Guild and Legion of Mary.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville, the Rev. Sean Code as celebrant. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
